Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)
Auditory processing disorder is characterized by problems in understanding what we hear, especially in acoustically challenging situations, such as in the presence of background noise, on the phone, or when many people talk simultaneously. Interestingly, the problem is not explained by a hearing loss, as most individuals have normal hearing.
The rehabilitation involves an individualized management programme focused on changes in the listening environment, auditory training and the use of compensatory strategies.
