Dr Cristina Murphy, BSc, MSc, PhD
Dr Cristina Murphy is an audiologist and researcher specialising in Auditory Processing Disorder. She has more than 20 years of experience working in the field of APD, including diagnosis and treatment (auditory training). She has published several papers in international peer-reviewed journals and delivered presentations as an invited speaker at national and international conferences. She is also one of the Steering Committee Members of the APD Special Interest Group of the British Society of Audiology (BSA).
In addition to the work at THE APD CLINIC, Dr Murphy works as a Specialist Paediatric Audiologist in the NHS and is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra (Portugal).

Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)
Auditory Processing Disorder is characterized by problems in understanding what we hear, especially in acoustically challenging situations, such as in the presence of background noise, on the phone, or when many people talk simultaneously. Interestingly, the problem is not explained by hearing loss, as most individuals have normal hearing.
The APD intervention involves an individualized management programme focused on changes in the listening environment, deficit-specific auditory training and implementation of compensatory strategies.
